don: sadly, i’ll never know the truth, because my hotel was in a *suburb* of ft. lauderdale, where the only nightlife came in the way of watching the little lizards scoot up and down the walls of the building. and i’m not sure what the deal is with all the spitting. i’m thinking of crafting my own personal sneeze guard out of plexiglass if i run into any more of these enthusiastic talk/spitters.

Maybe there really is a distinction, and that in Miami the business is run by mobsters while in Ft. Lauderdale it’s run by sex-positive feminist entrepreneurs. Why not? And this guy, while not being entirely aware of why, responds positively to the latter, and that’s a good mark for him.

As far as enabling a level of self-destruction can grant a good mark, anyway.

What’s with people who emit a spittle-mist when they get enthusiastic? I encountered one such towards the end of Burning Man in 2009 and missed the entire work week following for some horrible contagion.

The last couple of times I was in Ft. Lauderdale it was to wait for a cruise ship. I didn’t have time to do anything… except eat at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. I make time for that every time, because it wouldn’t be a trip to Ft. Lauderdale without it.

Next time I’m at Anthony’s, I’ll be sure to light up a cigarette and rent a prostitute. That way I’ll be ensuring that Florida doesn’t become the next Illinois.
