I am rendered nearly speechless by the joy of meeting Amy Sedaris, funniest person in the universe.
And while this doesn't compare to the novella that Ms. Sedaris wrote in Jessica's book, for me, it really says it all. Good times, indeed. (ps - big thanks for saving me that prime seat in the third row, Jess!)

Oooooh, sickness!!! I love her. And her bro, of course.
Is this book funny as well? We don't live in poverty anymore, but I still feel the purchase of a hardcover is akin to buying a Mercedes when your gramps is perfectly willing to hand over his Mercedes.

(oops. I meant gramps is willing to hand over his Buick LeSabre)
hehe. I'm now laughing picturing my grandpa (who is a lot like the pitch-fork guy in the American Gothic painting) driving a Mercedes.
Nevermind. Sorry.

You are most welcomed, Jen - thanks so much for coming and hanging out yet another night with me (even if I did have to lure you with the promise of meeting Amy Sedaris).
I'll be posting my pics as soon as I can get out of your wonderful city - winter storms suck.

Agggggh!! So so so very jealous. :( I put this book on my Christmas list and then found out last night that Amy had been in town. Poo.
Good on you, though!

I have to say that my love for Amy grew completely because of my undying love/borderline obsession with David Sedaris. When I saw him read/discuss passages from his then-not-yet-released book "Dress Your Family in Cordouroy and Demin" I nearly passed out I was so happy.
But she is awesome. And I was reading the inside of that book on Amazon, and I'm pretty sure I'm giving it to at least three people on my Christmas list this year...One of them being me.

Oh, my god, Jen, you beat me to it. I met Amy about 2 weeks at her book signing in Boston and I was thinking of writing about her. I have been a fan of hers and "Strangers with Candy" forever. I adore Amy Sedaris! Her sister lives near me and a friend of mine knows the sister. Apparently, she's rather, shall we say, 'unusual'. Jen, I feel really bonded with you now that I know you are a fan of Amy's!

Sarah: The book is great. It's a serious cookbook/entertaining book, but it's presented in hilarious Sedaris fashion. I think you can get it for like $20 on Amazon - totally worth it!
Jess: Ah, you know you don't need to bribe me with Sedarises to hang out, but it never hurts. I sure hope your flight gets out today - the weather isn't cooperating very well!
Diane: You'll love the book - it's a great xmas present!
Laurie: Isn't it scary that they have so much talent in that family? Sheesh. Share the wealth, why don't you?
Rhea: I am a HUGE Strangers With Candy fan, so I just about died when people in the audience started asking her to say some of my favorite lines like, "Pizza! Pizza! Pizza!" and "Hobocamp!" and the best of all, "Fandango?"

Don't you wonder what Christmas is like at the Sedaris family house? I bet it's just a riot.
I always love it when I meet my favorite authors and they DON'T suck. I've met a few who have sucked and then I was very, very disillusioned.

No WAY! You have the most funnest life of anyone, EVER, and I'm envious of you! But I love you for sharing your adventures so I can live and laugh vicariously as you run marathons sideways, rock out in disco taxis, meet and hangout with cool folks like Amy and Jessica and Vivian, go through revolving doors without getting stuck...

Amy is a hoot. I like her very much even if she's a little wacky on Letterman. Unfortunately, I missed her when she was in town recently. I should read the book.

I almost bought that book last weekend. And now I think I must.

I saw her in Durham a month or so ago, too. She rocks. I bought her book for my daughter for Christmas. I think it's a match made in heaven.

green with envy over here

i was SO completely and utterly bummed to the max to miss amy's appearance in seattle. i waited too long for my coworkers to get their asses in gear and so it sold out! boo hoo! i love her. she's the funniest. :)

I adore her!!! And her brother David. I spent my last plane ride cackling and guffawing over "Me Talk Pretty One Day." Everyone stared and I didn't care.

Speaking of your lovely city and its huge population of revolving doors, I'm sure glad I missed the storm.
Posted by: Don at December 3, 2006 11:17 AM
churlita: I can't even imagine! And yes, it was great to find out that Amy is as funny in person as she is on screen.
shari: I try to find fun wherever I go - even in revolving doors!
egan: She's totally wacky. And if you enjoy entertaining, you would probably like her book.
heather anne: Give in to temptation!
Jennifer: Fun! Did she sell crafts in Durham? She unfortunately had sold out of all her crafts by the time she made it to Chicago - I was so bummed!
Margaret: Maybe she'll make it to your area some time soon?
Sizzle: Aww, that's really too bad. You would've had a blast, I'm sure!
Brooke: I listened to the book on tape of Me Talk Pretty One Day, and it was hysterical!
Don: You were sooo lucky! I think you were here in time for our best weather ever, and left right before some of our worst!

OK, this is non-sequitor here, but you had me on the floor with the "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" comment. That's the only movie of limoncello's I can take, too, but the comment was BRILLIANTLY FUNNY!!!!
Posted by: shari at December 4, 2006 09:33 AM
Color me jealous!!!
Posted by: sandra at December 4, 2006 10:41 AM
Fun! I didn't even realize she had a book out, I'll have to run out and pick it up!
Posted by: Pants at December 4, 2006 03:38 PM
She and her brother are both so funny! I saw a clip of her talking about this book on Letterman a while back, before it was published--I didn't think it was real when she mentioned the concept of it, but I guess it is! I'll have to check it out!

It's hard to top Buy Viagra Online's astute comments, but I just found out that a friend of a friend lives in the same building in NYC as Amy Sedaris. He reported, "She dresses like a freak--if she weren't famous, she'd be committed." I said, "I'm so relieved. I'd be so disappointed to hear that she seemed really normal, very gracious and slightly aloof."
