« Happy Independence Day! | Main | Summer Summer Summer Time »
I lean back to watch the beginning of Ghostbusters on the DVD player in my brother’s minivan. This is at least the fifth time my eight and ten-year old nephews have seen the movie.
Older nephew: “Rick Moranis is such a good actor in this movie.”
Younger nephew: “Rick Moranis is such a good actor in EVERY movie.”
Me: “Are you kidding me? Rick Moranis sucks!”
Older nephew: “What are you talking about?! He’s the best! Didn’t you see Ghostbusters II?”
Younger nephew: “Yeah! Or Honey I Shrunk the Kids? He was awesome in that!”
My brother: “Yeah! Or Little Shop of Horrors?”
Me: “Ohmigod, it’s genetic.”
My nephews – the Siskel and Ebert of a new generation.

Or Strange Brew?

You gotta admit that Rick has a certain something about him. . .
"Boy, the superintendent's gonna be pissed!"

I'm surprised that they knew his name. When I was 8 I was still coming to terms with the fact that Mickey Mouse wasn't real.

I totally count his work as Dark Helmet to be some of the greatest acting in cinematic history.

did you hear that rick moranis refused to be in the new ghostbusters video game? apparently he made so much money on those honey i fucked up the kids movies that he refuses to work ever ever again.
god bless the man.

Wow. I'm with Sarah... at your nephews' age, I'd seen a few movies, but had no idea that Mary Poppins wasn't her actual name.

It's pretty impressive how well-versed they are with Mr. Moranis' widely varying and truly inspired acting credits.

Well, whatever Rick Moranis lacks in acting ability, he clearly makes up for in good looks....

avitable: hey hoser! koo oo koo koo koo koo koo KOO!
sizzle: he does have a nerdy charm about him, i suppose.
sarah: i kind of had the same thought!
vahid: "i see your schwartz is as big as mine."
kat: what? no way! who turns down an offer to be immortalized in a video game? he's gone mad.
shari: i know, right? they're kind of weird kids that way. :)
sir: they are true cinemaphiles.
jessica: jess and ricky, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!

Are your nephews Canadian by chance?

The Siskel and Ebert of their generation, yes, but they're watching the movies of my generation, which is surprising. I would think they'd be all about whatever the boy equivalent of Miley Cyrus is. But I guess some people are just wired to love the classics.
